"Hybridity, Multiplicity, Heterogeneity"
Cesar Chavez Student Center Art Gallery at San Francisco State University
A MULTI-MEDIA EXHIBIT OF BAY AREA ARTISTS OF SOUTHEAST ASIAN DESCENT
EXHIBIT OPENING AND RECEPTION: THURSDAY, MARCH 3, 5 to 8 PM
HYBRIDITY, MULTIPLICITY, HETEREOGENERITY fosters an interdisciplinary
dialogue on cultural fusion, tradition and identity within the San Francisco Bay Area’s Southeast Asian American community. The artists selected for this exhibition use a myriad of media to convey their sense of self and their position within American society. The artists’ thematic materials vary as a result of the
diverse heritages they were raised in and the relationships and/or memories they
choose to work from. Highlighting these selected works from a larger cultural
base, this exhibition is mounted in conjunction with San Francisco State University’s third tri-annual interdisciplinary conference of Southeast Asians in the diaspora: Re-SEAing Southeast Asian American Studies March 10 and 11.

GALLERY EXHIBITION: CESAR STUDENT ART GALLERY
10:00am – 6pm Terrace Level of the Student Union
Aug 6 to Aug 29, 2009
The Women's Caucus for Art in conjunction with SOMArts Cultural Center present an exhibition titled "CONTROL". Organized around the theme of control (or lack of it), the show explores the artists interpretation of all methods of control: internal, external, positive, negative, over life events and over technology, empowering or dehumanizing, politically correct - or not. The work was juried by members of Guerrilla Girls
West, a group of women art activists in gorilla masks, who have been protesting the lack of inclusion for women artists in museum and gallery collections since 1987.
Karen Gutfreund previews art works to be displayed at the "Control" exhibit at the SOMArts Cultural Center in San Francisco, August 2009. This art exhibit will feature works by 79 California women artists on aspects of Control-how women are in control, and how they are not.
