Resilience Bouverie

In this vivid triptych, three California Fire Poppies (Papaver californicum) rise boldly as symbols of hope, resilience and rebirth, with the charred flanks of the Mayacamas mountain range in the background. Like a botanical version of the legendary Phoenix, which is consumed by fire to be reborn from the ashes, the seeds of this “fire follower” can lie dormant for decades until smoke and chemical signals from wildfires causes them to germinate.
